Yorkshire Pudding / Leek and Herb Quiche / 3 Turkey Sandwiches

Blog Post & Recipe: Yorkshire Pudding

One of the tricks to get the Yorkshire pudding to rise well and to not fall is to bake it in a very hot oven and you can preheat the pan in addition to the oven to take it one step further ...

dm said... What's also nice is making it so it is shaped like a large bowl which you can then fill with a stew, meat or veggie.

Blog Post & Recipe: Leek and Herb tart

There’s a few things that really make the difference between a soggy sponge-like thing and a crisp, buttery comfort food. The pastry - it's got to be short, really short, like, leprechaun short.

Article & Recipes: The turkey sandwich reinvented

On the construction of a sandwich, he says: "When you bite into it you should taste the bread, but by the time the top of your mouth meets the bottom you get meat and cheese with every bite. Every bite of sandwich should be the same bite."

Kintamani Fish Soup / Creamed Turnips with Their Greens / Jibaritos

Article & Recipe: Flavours of paradise

Questioned about Indonesian food and how it is perceived, she says it is the most misrepresented cuisine of south-east Asia. ''But I believe it is the most majestic,'' she says.

Kintamani fish soup

Blog Post & Recipe: Creamed Turnips with Their Greens

I love turnips. They’re a highlight of the fall vegetable yield, but often overlooked I think. Though they look a bit like a parsnip, they have an underlying bite that sweet little parsnips lack. Maybe they’re the crotchety grandpa of the root vegetable world. The greens, like mustard or beet greens, are pretty thick. They need a decent boil, and, in this case, a nice creamy sauce.

Blog Post & Recipe: jibaritos with guava paste

Months ago I learned what a jibarito was, when I came across it on a blog. I bookmarked the recipe for this grilled cheese sandwich that uses ripe plaintain in place of bread, but I could never make it--I was missing a key ingredient. And then a few weeks ago, my aunt walked into the kitchen with it: guava paste! ... Having had it now, I can tell you that any jelly would make a decent substitute for guava paste, and jibaritos are special.

Blog Post & Recipe: Fresh Veggie Summer Rolls with Shiso and Thai Basil

In order to make summer rolls, though, you must have at least two essential ingredients: rice wrappers, and mung bean starch noodles ... You basically make like a burrito.

Blog Post & Recipe: Buckwheat filled mushrooms

I love the crunchy buckwheat and I rather under-cook it just a little than let it go all mushy and porridge-like. Pared with rosemary (a little garlic and lemon zest too , if you wish) and tiny bit of cheese they are such a simple thing to enjoy.

8 Rice Puddings / Eggplant & Rapini Meatball Subs / Fennel & Walnut Pie

Recipes: Today Is National Rice Pudding Day

Here are some of our favorite rice pudding recipes to make at home.

Double Coconut Rice Pudding
Chamomile Rice Pudding with Tea-Soaked Raisins
Coconut Mango Rice Pudding
Simple Rice Pudding
Miss Ina's Down-Home Rice Pudding
Purple Rice Pudding in Coconut Milk
Tibetan Rice Pudding
Jasmine Rice Pudding

Recipe: Eggplant & Rapini Meatball Subs

This seems like an insane amount of work for what is basically a sandwich but it is worth it, I swear. The meatballs bake for roughly the same time it takes to fry the eggplant so everything is hot, crisp and delicious at the same time.

Blog Post & Recipe: fennel

One was sliced super-thin and tossed with champagne vinegar, though cider vinegar is just as good, and drizzled with a real throat-catcher of an extra virgin olive oil. I wolfed the whole thing down, a hunk of bread chasing the dressing around the plate for lunch. Three more went in to a favourite dish of braised fennel not unlike this version, and the other two went into this rather incredible pie.

4 Vegetable Soups / Spinach Sandwich / Radish & Basil Pesto

Blog Post & Recipes: More soups I've been making

Spicy Coconut Soup ... Radiant Bok Choy ... Lettuce & Potato Soup ... If I have a lot of greens leftover I make Jamie’s Ribollita.

Recipe: Spinach Sandwich

Apply butter on two slices of bread (on one side) and spread this spinach filling all over on one slice, place the other bread slice and toast till golden. Serve warm.

Blog Post & Recipe: Radish and Basil Pesto

This recipe was inspired by a similar one I saw on Clotilde Dusolier's "Chocolate and Zucchini" sometime last year. Hers called for using just the radish greens, and she also used a more traditional hard Italian cheese such as parmesan or romano, typical of a straight basil pesto. I've added some basil for a little more complexity, marcona almonds for their sweetness, feta cheese for its tang, and finely diced radishes for a little extra spice and crunch.

Hasselback Beetroot / Roast Sweet Potato Panini / Cook Pizza on the Barbecue

Blog Post & Recipe: Hasselback Beets - Nature's Sweet Side Dish [via]

I always see gorgeous pictures of hasselback potatoes on foodgawker. However, since I didn't have potatoes, I used my picture-perfect beets ...

3 whole beets
olive oil
salt
pepper

Blog Post & Recipe: Roasted Sweet Potato Panini | Inspired by the West

Both Paul and I love avocado, so I just had to test it paired with the sweet potato. I’ve never tried this pairing before, but we love sweet potatoes and we love avocados. Plus, the avocado is in such a lovely color, don’t you think?

Fried Plantain Panini With Yoghurt Dressing / Whole Roasted Onions / Yucca Dough Empanadas

Recipe: Fried Plantain Panini With Yogurt Dressing

When the panini is ready, remove it and open it up. Splash the mix on top of the plantain, and close the sandwich back up. Enjoy while warm.

Blog Post & Recipe: Whole Roasted Onions

Plonk onions on a baking sheet without bothering to peel them. Shove in oven. Come back later for achingly sweet, tender, oniony goodness. Accept accolades. See how easy is was?

Blog Post & Recipe: Yucca Dough Empanadas

I never used yucca so it was pretty interesting. I didn't realize at first that there is actually a core in the center that you can't really eat. You need to peel the yucca, then cut around the core and boil for about a half hour. Then just mash it into a dough.

Portabello Mushroom & Basil Pesto Panini / Roasted Sweet Potato Salad / Escabeche & Savory Granola

Blog Post & Recipe: Portabello Mushroom and Basil Pesto Panini [via]

I decided to have a vegetarian dinner for my family last night and picked up some big beautiful portabello mushrooms for our paninis. I also added fresh basil pesto, mozzarella, tomatoes and sweet vidalia onions to them.

Blog Post & Recipe: Roasted Sweet Potato Salad

And it definitely takes the right kind of potato salad to make me realize that it’s ok to eat something warm on a hot day. I simply have no patience for chill time when there are sweet potatoes, black beans, red peppers, cilantro, and lime involved.

Blog Post & Recipe: Escabeche + Savory Granola (+ Las Manas Tamales)

So, you can imagine our delight when a plate of pickled asparagus, beets and carrots topped with a mess of puffed millet, seeds and spices arrived at our table. After our first bites, we both nodded in agreement. This is so good ...

The vegetables were sharp, intensely flavored and very vinegary. The granola is toasted, salty, sweet, and umami.

Concept: use that grill as a sandwich press. (Or has this already occurred to you, M?)

Fennel Salad / Vegetable Medley / General Tso’s Tofu Sub

Blog Post & Recipe: Fancy Fennel, Simple Salad

I made it with just fennel, lime juice, olive oil, salt and pepper but felt that it lacked something, so added a sliced onion to the mix. It was just right.

Blog Post & Recipe: Vegetable Medley: don't throw away your random vegetables!

This is really not a recipe. The amounts I used were the ones that I had on hand: go ahead and use what you have. The idea is just to get a bit creative and to not waste your food.

Blog Post & Recipe: The Temporary Vegetarian: General Tso’s Tofu Sub

The centerpiece is a deep-fried panko-crusted rectangle of firm tofu, golden and crusty outside, and creamy inside. Mr. Kord layers the tofu between edamame purée, homemade pickled cucumbers, and a piquant sauce named after General Tso, that includes ginger, garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, sugar and chilis.

I skimmed the fat from the top, warmed them up and added them to the chicken salad. From there I added some things that I often add to my chicken souvlaki gyros, namely some roasted red pepper, red onion, tzatziki and feta.

Quinoa Falafels / Grilled Pimento-Cheese Sandwiches / Beer Can Chicken

Blog Post & Recipe: QUINOA FALAFELS WITH TAHINI SAUCE

The falafels themselves are very low in fat, so the sauce, or any sauce of choice is necessary.

Blog Post & Recipe: Grilled Pimento-Cheese Sandwiches

The pimento cheese recipe we got from B. is simple and delicious. It actually relies on roasted red peppers instead of pimientos.

Blog Post & Recipe: Beer Can chicken

Yes the chicken looks rather ridiculous on its beer can perch, covered with an herb rub and half-ready to salute you. But hear me out. While the chicken is dry roasting on the outside, the inside is being bathed with steamy beer, keeping the chicken meat wonderfully moist.

Tweaking Recipes / Moorish Pork Chops / Grilled Chicken Sandwich with Apricot Sauce

Blog Post: The Recipe Tweaker [via Chez Pim]

It's only when you make big, bold changes--swapping limes for lemons, grinding and toasting your spices, ignoring the Mighty Keller--that you can call yourself a real cook. AKA: a recipe tweaker.

Recipe: Jamie's Moorish pork chops

When the Moors invaded Spain they brought grapes and dried fruits with them. Their love of mixing dried fruits with meats definitely left its mark on Spanish cooking and this is my nod to that time in Spain's history.

Blog Post & Recipe: Grilled Chicken Sandwich with Apricot Sauce

Yesterday I examined the contents of my kitchen and wound up with a small pile of things I needed to use: a couple of raw chicken breasts, a loaf of sourdough bread, and a bunch of baby spinach ... Realizing I had a full jar of apricot preserves in the pantry, I ... whipped up this sandwich

Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Apple Chutney / Friend Hardboiled Eggs / Balsamic and Lentil Bread
