Red Wine & Garlic Braised Beef Shanks / Linguine with Fried Eggs & Rosemary / Kale, Sausage & Flageolets

Blog Post & Recipe: Red Wine and Garlic Braised Beef Shanks

Beef shanks are from the leg of the cow and have a big bone right in the middle. Get the meatiest ones with the biggest bones. Don’t worry. They are cheap.

Blog Post & Recipe: linguine with fried eggs & rosemary

This dish tastes fancy and indulgent, yet light at the same time. It comes together in a snap – the most time consuming part was waiting for the pasta to cook.

Blog Post & Recipe: Kale, Sausage and Flageolets

Or posh bean stew, if you will. [...] You might be surprised by the addition of cream, however it adds a touch of class to this definitely rustic dish – and makes delicious juices for you to mop up with your bread.

Ginger Snaps / Jam Tarts / 5 Breakfasts

Blog Post & Recipe: gingersnaps

These are the kinds your grandmother might have made, as evidenced by the healthy helping of dark, funky and impossibly thick molasses.

Blog Post & Recipe: jam tarts

Rub 40z of butter and 6oz of flour together in a big bowl. Do so quickly, as Tamasin Day-Lewis says, "as though the butter and flour are hot sand".

Article & Recipes: Wake up to a better breakfast

You need crumpet moulds – a slightly unusual piece of kitchen kit, but a handy one when the crumpet bug bites. The rings some people use for making perfectly round fried eggs would work too, of course.

Fried Egg with Burnt Sage Butter, Chilli & Garlicky Yoghurt / Scones / Teriyaki Tofu Noodle Bowl

Blog Post & Recipe: Skye Gyngell’s fried egg with burnt sage butter, chilli and garlicky yoghurt

Gyngell gives this rather useless (and weirdly pornographic) advice about how to tell whether your eggs are fresh: ‘Very fresh eggs have bright, shiny yolks that sit proudly on top of bouncy, thick whites as you crack them into the pan.'

Article & Recipe: How to bake the perfect scone

For some tips on how to turn leaden rocks into luscious scones I turned to the organisation responsible for producing tens of thousands of them each year at the Sydney and Melbourne agricultural shows, The Country Women’s Association

Blog Post & Recipe: Teriyaki Tofu Noodle Bowl

Teriyaki sauce is really easy to make at home. Just whisk together sugar, mirin and sake (or vinegar), and let it boil to thicken. You can use this sauce as a marinade on vegetables, brush it over anything you are grilling, or toss it in some rice or noodles.

Fried Rice with Fried Egg / Roasted Parsnips / Classic Potato Gratin

Blog Post & Recipe: fried-rice served with fried egg

I am programed to like my "fried-rice" cooked very moist and soft just like my mum's.

Blog Post & Recipe: roasted parsnips

Roast it with a little citrus juice, honey and a couple of spices, and watch the parsnips come alive.

Blog Post & Recipe: Marvelous, golden

The onion sweetens the cream slightly, and the anchovies mitigates all with a profound salinity. Eaten the next morning, warmed moderately with a poached egg and a salad of the most peppery, bitterest greens you can find, it's exceptional.

Blog Post & Recipe: Incongruity, Thy Name is Baby Octopus & Fried Eggs

Catalan culinary tradition pairs mar y muntanya often in the chicken and shrimp stews of the region of Girona, and baby octopus with fried eggs loosely follows the same line of thinking, just focusing unapologetically on the infantile and gestational end of the spectrum of life.

Blog Post & Recipes: Super Natural Every Day: Six Recipe Sampler

You can download the recipe sampler PDF here. The file is quite small, just 2MB. It is twenty pages in length, and includes six of my favorite recipes from the new book. It also includes a number of photo out takes that didn't make it into the final book. In short, a little teaser of the book to come.

Article & Recipe & Video: Fried Rice, Dressed Simply

The link to the recipe is on the left of the article.

I was never more impressed than when [Jean-Georges Vongerichten] created his version of fried rice, topped with crisp ginger and a fried egg.

Article & Recipe: Upscale Dallas restaurants embrace biscuits and sausage gravy

Indeed, it was a most delicate and refined biscuit, topped with a house-made sausage patty and a smooth, saucelike gravy. Pure elegance.

* tinned legumes
* tinned tomatoes.

Each of these is quick and easy to prepare

Chicken Mug-Pies / Pot Roasted Chicken / Fennel & Olive Pasta on a Fried Egg

Blog Post & Recipe: Chicken Mug-Pies

I baked all of them at once, and refrigerated half for another night, covered in foil; they reheated nicely in the oven at 350F for 20-30 minutes, keeping the foil on to protect the crusts from over-browning.

Blog Post & Recipe: Pot Roasted Chicken for Rainy Autumn Days

I used to make it in a Crockpot when I was very busy and it would cook all day until we needed it. Nowadays I don’t have such a thing and I’ve reverted back to the way my grandmother would have cooked it, in a heavy covered Dutch oven.

Blog Post & Recipe: Fennel & Kalamata olive pasta on fried egg

Thick bucatini pasta coated in a sweet red sauce and topped with diced kalamata olives and sautéed fennel. Served on top of a perfectly fried egg! The yolk adds so much to the flavor of the red sauce.

So the trick to making sauce that tastes like it’s been simmering for hours is to cook it down to a thick pasty texture and then rehydrate it by adding a ladle or two of starchy pasta water to the pan. You should also use tongs ...

Meat Galette. Fried Eggs Five Ways. Three Vegetable Meals.

Article & Recipe: Delicious way to 'veg out'

This week, I have created some simple and tasty recipes to use vegetables that are readily available at the moment [in Australia].

Pumpkin risotto ... Parsnip and potato cakes with cheese ... Pumpkin and leek soup

Blog Post & Recipe: Beef or Pork Galette?

I had seen some posts of galettes in the past but did not know exactly what it was. I looked it up and according to wikipedia, it is a round and crusty cake but I am more inclined to think of it as a pie with a hole in the middle and instead of being cooked in a pie dish, it is folded up and around the filling, leaving it uncovered in the middle.

Blog Post: Top Five: Ways to Eat a Fried Egg

A fried egg is our trick for turning an otherwise ho-hum meal into a great one. If we're low on fixings and need to make a full meal out of just a few spare ingredients, a fried egg is one of the first things we think of adding.

1. Over Green Salad ... 2. Over Noodles or Other Grains ... 3. On Pizza ... 4. On Kale or Other Hearty Green ... 5. On Toast

Chickpeas.

Article/recipe: Skye Gyngell pays homage to the mighty chickpea.

Includes recipes for scallops with chickpeas, mint and chilli; buffalo mozzarella, chickpeas, red pepper and olives; chickpeas with fried eggs, labne, burnt sage and chilli butter; and chickpea, tomato, chard and bread soup. Be aware that The Independent screens its articles behind sign-in walls after they have been on the site for a few days.

I love the gentle, nutty flavour of chickpeas and the way they sit so comfortably with the heat of chillis, lemon juice, olive oil and herbs such as mint and coriander. I love them partly pounded with olive oil and finished with lemon juice, chilli, garlic and tahini paste to form a rough type of houmous eaten on toast or simply with flat bread.
